In June 2023, members of Sri Sathya Sai Center of Sacramento participated in a garden beautification project at the Lakshmi Narayan temple in Sacramento, CA. About 10 members, including Sai Spiritual Education (SSE) students and Young Adults, planted eleven geranium bushes and installed a drip system to regularly water the newly planted shrubs. The project was a part of the SAI-100 Tree Planting initiative.

Participants reflected on how the planting service benefits them in a wholistic way. It nurtures their spiritual connection with the Divinity. Mother Nature is manifest Divinity, and they felt caring for Nature builds a sense of reverence for her. It also promotes one’s well-being through physical activity and the intake of vitamins from being out in the sunshine. Mental well-being is also improved through relieving stress, creating camaraderie among members, and instilling a sense of community and togetherness.

Members also expressed gratitude and self-satisfaction to be a part of the SAI-100 Tree Planting initiative. They felt it was their duty to give back to Mother Nature by planting greenery, and to be a small part of the effort to leave nature in a pristine condition for the next generation. Planting greenery is an effective way to create a healthy and clean environment, and promote air quality, which, in turn, improves the overall quality of life for all beings.

The garden beautification project was a fulfilling experience for all who participated. It was carried out with gratitude to Sri Sathya Sai Baba and to the community for the opportunity to serve.
